What is OpenStack CirrOS?

If you have worked with OpenStack, then you’ve likely reached for a CirrOS (cirros) image more than once.

So, what is CirrOS?

CirrOS (x86_64) is a stripped down Linux (free) distro that can be used for proof-of-concept testing; use it to establish that instances (VMs) can be launched. If you are running an OpenStack environment, then the Glance (imaging) service would be called on to manage the storage of the CirrOS image (either by caching locally, or storing as an object via Swift). A quick guide to installing Switchvox on a virtual machine

Before you begin, you will need a machine with at least a dual core processor, 4 gigs of RAM and 10ish gigs of free HD space. As far as the installed OS goes, I’m going to assume some flavor of Windows.

We’re going to be using two applications- Free Home Switchvox v1.0 and some flavor of a virtual machine. We need the VM because Switchvox is administered via a web GUI and wants a dedicated machine.
