AGD Interactive Studios – Adventure games live again

AGD Interactive Studios is a company devoted to the resurrection of the adventure game genera that was created by Sierra On-Line and wildly popular with PC gamers in late 80’s and 90’s. Their goal is achieved primarily by enhancing and updating old Sierra titles, then offering them for free download. However, AGD has created one original pay-to-play title, Al Emmo: The Lost Dutchman’s Mine, and has another one in the works, Mage’s Initiation: Reign of the Elements.

Mage’s Initiation: Reign of the Elements is the result of a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign (funded March 23, 2013) with the objective to create an original RPG / Adventure game hybrid (i.e. Sierra’s Quest for Glory series). You play as D’Arc, a 16 year old mage initiate in the lands of Iginor. At the onset of the game, the player chooses the element to which D’Arc’s magic is associated (Fire, Earth, Air, Water), which will have effects on how the storyline of the game unfolds. The work thus far have been quite impressive, enough so to make me wonder if this won’t quickly become a cult classic among those of us that still play Sierra’s classic adventure games when it is released (projected release is sometime in 2014).

Titles produced by AGD Interactive Studios (current at time of posting):

King’s Quest I: Quest for the Crown (free to download)

King’s Quest II: Romancing the Stones (free to download)

King’s Quest III: To Heir is Human (free to download)

Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire (free to download)

Al Emmo: The Lost Dutchman’s Mine (pay-to-play)

Mage’s Initiation: Reign of the Elements (funded via Kickstarter 03/23/2013 – In production)
